埃奇库姆：曾问过马克西是否在招募老詹 他对我全程保密

北京时间8月5日，76人后卫VJ-埃奇库姆在接受ESPN专访时，聊到了关于勒布朗-詹姆斯加盟的幕后趣事。
当被问及自己是否参与了招募詹姆斯的行动时，埃奇库姆坦言：“说实话，我跟勒布朗私下并不熟。别误会，我非常敬重他，但在场外我们从来没有真正接触过。当然，赛场上我们是交过手的。他是我在篮球这条路上一直仰望的标杆，也是当初让我拿起篮球的原因之一。我最早开始关注他，还是他在热火打球的时候。但要说了解他本人，那还真谈不上。”
他接着说道：“后来我隔三差五就给马克西打电话，追着他问：‘咱能弄来老詹吗？能不能把老詹请来？’马克西每次就回我：‘兄弟，我也不知道啊，感觉不太现实。’结果他其实早就知道内情了，就是一直瞒着我。反正我是这么觉得的，当然也有可能是我自己想多了。”
面对主持人关于保守秘密重要性的提醒，埃奇库姆也笑着回应：“确实，这种事说出来万一搞砸了就麻烦了。勒布朗要是听到风声，搞不好就想，‘算了，那我还是去别处吧。’不过马克西从头到尾都没跟我透露半句。虽然被瞒了挺久，但我原谅他了，毕竟这次他在招募这件事上干得确实漂亮。”
